They were built by the Electro-Motive
Division of General Motors in 1964. From
May of 1964 through April 1965, the
Pennsylvania Railroad purchased over 100
GP-35s from EMD. Then in 1968 the PRR
merged with New York Central to form the
new Penn Central.
